About Writers & Books Support Our Work in the Rochester CommunityNow you can contribute to our annual fund online. Just click here to add your contribution to your shopping cart.Dear Friend of Writers & Books, I’m sure you’d find it hard to imagine your life without reading and writing. There are many of us who feel the same way, and that’s why at Writers & Books, even in these challenging economic times, we are dedicated to making Rochester the most literary mid-sized city in the United States. In a recent letter to the Democrat and Chronicle, a woman who had moved from Rochester wrote of what she missed here: “We miss Wegmans. And Parkleigh, Abbotts, Arena’s, the Little Theatre, Writers & Books, The Eastman Theater, the Highland Diner, the Public Market.” One local writer called Writers & Books “the heart of the city’s literary community.” What makes Writers & Books so vital to Rochester? Maybe it’s the more than250 writing workshops we offer every year. Or perhaps it’s our SummerWrite youth program that brings the magic of writing to over 400 local youngsters, or our outreach programs that bring free writing programs to hundreds who would not otherwise be able to participate. Or it might be our annual “If All Rochester Read the Same Book…” and Big Read program that puts more than 20,000 area readers “on the same page” each year. Writers & Books has been an important part of the Rochester cultural landscape for 28 years, and during that time has grown into one of the country’s largest community literary centers with more than 25,000 area residents participating in our programs each year. From supporting writers to introducing Rochesterians of all ages and backgrounds to the excitement of literature, our programs truly make a difference in people’s lives. But we can only continue to do our work with the help of a community of caring supporters like you, and that’s why I am writing to ask for your support during our annual fund drive. All contributions are completely tax-deductible Please take this opportunity to respond generously to our 2008 annual fund drive and join with your friends and neighbors in guaranteeing a bright future for the readers and writers of today and tomorrow. We promise your gift will be used wisely! Sincerely, Joe Flaherty Contribution Levels
